Subiefest 2018 Blood Drive


This year Subiefest is partnering with Between The Lines to support Children’s Hospital Los Angeles’s need for blood donations with a mobile blood drive during the event on October 21st.

DONOR REQUIREMENTS ARE ESTABLISHED BY THE FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION AND THE AMERICAN ASSOCIATION OF BLOOD BANKS

Before you donate:
Donor must be over 18 years old or 17 years old with completed parental consent packet
Donor must weigh at least 110 pounds. (17 year olds must weigh over 120 pounds)
Donors are encouraged to have a healthy meal before donating and to drink plenty of fluids
Donors are required to bring a valid photo ID
The day before donation drink extra fluids
Do not fast prior to donating


Please do not donate if you:
Are sick or not feeling well
Have donated blood in the past 8 weeks
Are pregnant
Have a bleeding disorder or blood disease
Have had hepatitis or lived with someone who has hepatitis
Have had Babesiosis or Chagas disease
Have ever received growth hormone made from human pituitary glands
Have ever received a brain covering graft
Have any blood relatives with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease
Have been injected with bovine (beef) insulin since 1980
Have ever used a needle to inject nonprescription drugs (including steroids)
Have taken clotting factor concentrates for a bleeding problem
Have HIV/AIDS or have had a positive test for the HIV/AIDS virus
Have taken money or drugs for sex since 1977
Are a man and have had sex with another man in the past 12 months
Have been treated for syphilis or gonorrhea in the past 12 months
Have taken Tegison for psoriasis


Please call CHLA at (323) 361-2441 for an evaluation if you have had any of the following:
Cancer
Chest pain, stroke, heart disease, lung disease, or malaria
Major illness, surgery, or are under a doctor's care
Blood transfusions or tissue grafts/transplants
Tattoos, ear/skin piercing, or acupuncture
Accidental needle stick or come into contact with someone else's blood
Rabies shot or any other shots or vaccinations
Been held in a prison/jail for more than 72 consecutive hours
Take Avodart, Proscar, Propecia, Accutane, Soriatane, or any other medications
Traveled outside of the United States
Lived in Europe
Recently moved to the United States
Donated a blood or plasma product at another facility in the past 8 weeks
If you have the sickle trait, you may not donate whole blood but it is possible you may qualify to donate platelets.


Children’s Hospital Los Angeles has been named the top pediatric hospital in the western United States as well as No. 1 in California by U.S. News and World Report which has placed CHLA on their Honor Roll for 10 consecutive years. Every month, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles needs to collect 2,000 units of blood products to meet the needs of its patients. Each donation can help two to three children. Children’s Hospital Los Angeles collects blood to meet the needs of its Sickle Cell Disease treatment center, the largest in California requiring a large number of antigen-specific blood units, as well as needs of its Level 1 Trauma Center, Hematology-Oncology Unit, NICCU, PICU and CTICU. Donate blood at Subiefest and to show the patients and families of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles how much the Subaru community cares.
